The Place

I am starting off the new year right by visiting and reviewing places in Newport, specifically along Monmouth St. I've been researching some breakfast/brunch options and decided to start out with Press. This is not my first visit here. I have met one of my dear friends here a couple of times when she comes in from out of town. However, I feel like I always ordered a more lunch oriented item. So with that being said, I am definitely excited to have some breakfast!

Location & Parking

Press on Monmouth is located on the northern portion of Monmouth towards the levee in the Monmouth Row Apartments. Parking is on- street. There is meter parking along Monmouth, you may be able to find some free parking on some of the side streets. I ended up snagging some free Sunday meter parking. Reservations not accepted or needed.

Atmosphere

The atmosphere here is super casual and welcoming. Decor is industrial with a local cafe vibe. The service logistics of the restaurant are very efficient. Upon walking in, you place your order at the counter your assigned a table and they bring your food out to you. I am so sad to report that I will not have an AM cocktail to review this time around because Press is unable to serve alcohol prior to 11AM on Sunday. Normally in this situation, I would order coffee. However, I was already turnt from my two cups of Nespresso I had at home earlier that morning. Instead, I had a refreshing cup of water! They did have what appeared to be an impressive selection of mimosas. I will not be holding the lack of AM cocktail against them because they were adhering to regulations.

Order-Up

Goetta Breakfast Sandwich & Tater Tot Waffle

I ordered the Goetta Breakfast Sandwich which consisted of goetta, an over medium egg, tomato, cheddar, chipotle sauce on a brioche bun. It was delicious! This to me was just as heavenly as the brunch burger I had at The Standard. Goetta and egg were cooked perfectly, The tomato and bun were very fresh. Now let's talk about the Tater Tot Waffle, it was amazing as well! This was literally a generous handful of tater tots sprinkled with cheese and pressed in a waffle iron. Outside had a crispy cheese flavor inside had a soft potato texture. This entire meal was melt in your mouth!

Overall Experience

The overall experience at Press on Monmouth was great. This was an easy place to dine solo, you can walk right in without reservation pressure, and they have great menu items. Expect to spend 10-20 dollars here.

Rating: 4

Press on Monmouth gets 4 stars. One for each category: Atmosphere, Service, AM Cocktail (Best glass of water I have ever had, ha!), and Plate. Will definitely be dropping in again for more last minute brunches and to actually get to try a mimosa!
