The Place

For the remainder of this month and the beginning of the next I will be reviewing brunch spots in Covington's Mainstrausse Village. There are many hidden gems to be found in Mainstrausse as far as the dining scene goes. There is always something new to try and familiar favs such as Otto's.

Location & Parking

Mainstrausse is conveniently located off of the 5th Street Exit in Covington. Otto's is located on Main Street. Parking in Mainstrausse village is easy and convenient. Parking options include garage parking on the corner of Fifth and Main, lot parking off of Fifth, and plenty of free on street parking within the village if you arrive earlier in the day. I was able to find great free on-street parking on 6th Street right around the corner from the restaurant. It was a beautiful day and I had a nice stroll on the way over.

Atmosphere

When you step inside Otto's you feel as if you have been teleported to Charleston, South

Carolina. I would describe the atmosphere as vintage, southern, and artsy. There are two different dining rooms at as well as a charming small area of outdoor seating in front of the main entrance.  The dining room on the main level feels like you are dining in an art gallery.

Canvas paintings line the wall, each table has mismatched bold-colored chairs, and the tables are covered with white clothes adding an upscale feel to your brunch experience. A bar area offering ample seating is located off to the side of the dining room with great built-ins that showcase the liquor selection. The dining room on the second level is elegant and provides the illusion you are in the dining room of an old historic Victorian home. My friend and I were seated on this first level and were ready to catch up. This particular morning we decided to go bold and order the Jalapeno & Garlic Infused Bloody Mary. I would say this AM cocktail had great flavor, right amount of heat, and the vodka pour was generous.

Order-Up

Steak &Egg Burrito

I thought it was about time to have a breakfast burrito review on this blog. I loved the idea of taking the classic steak and eggs dish and and rolling it into one. This menu item also came as a recommendation from our waitress. I ordered the potato pancake on the side. When my plate came to the table, I could immediately tell that the potato pancake was overcooked, which was disappointing because this is my go to side when I dine here. The inside was light and fluffy however, the outside was burnt. The texture of the burrito was nice, the eggs were scrambled and cooked perfectly. The burrito did not contain a lot of steak and it was overcooked. There was not a lot of flavor to this dish, even the sauce was bland. This was definitely not what I was use to at Otto's.

Otto's Benedict

My friend ordered the Otto's Benedict. This dish adds a cheesy bacon grit, tomato, and spinach to the classic already established elements of a benedict. Mixed greens were ordered as a side dish adding to the already colorful presentation. My friend described her plate as filling and a good brunch dish.

Overall Experience

As far as atmosphere this place knocks it out of the park. It is fun, enjoyable and you do not feel rushed. Wait staff and hostess were cordial and attentive. Our waitress kept the drinks coming which made catching up all the more fun! Expect to spend between fifteen and to twenty-five dollars here.

Recommend: Yes or No

Yes (with no exclamation point) I would recommend Otto's but I would not recommend the Steak and Egg Burrito. I feel like the drinks, atmosphere, and company saved this review from receiving a No this time around. Stay tuned, I am currently working on a rating system to provide a better representation of reviews!
